Bariloche adventure - Argentina

- Transfer from the Bariloche Airport to the hotel.

The day begins at the Nahuel Huapi National Park, one of Argentina’s first protected natural areas. You will drive past different lakes (Gutiérrez, Mascardi, and Guillermo) and then along a dirt road to a bridge over the crystal clear waters of the greenish-blue Manso River, where you will disembark. The mountain bikes await you, ready for the ride. But first, the guide will instruct you on bike safety and handling as well as give you a breakdown the itinerary for the rest of the day.

The view of the Manso River Valley is truly awesome from the other side of the bridge. The right bank of the river is lined with farms and houses, and Mount Bastion and Mount Ventisqueros dominate the landscape.

As you pedal away the day, the river will be on your left side; keep your eyes open for smaller tributary creeks, bridges, waterfalls, wide open prairies, and plenty of scrub land. You are now in the heart of the Patagonian wilderness.

Lunchtime consists of a lovely picnic on the riverbank: a fine time to recover and listen to the voice of the river.

Afterwards, it’s back on the bikes. The trail is flat for most of the way; only the last section ascends, requiring a bit more effort on your part. But once you reach the top, it’s all downhill to the second bridge crossing the river, the waters here turning a deep shade of green, and there is a nice sandy beach on the bank, perfect for relaxing and resting before you are picked up and transferred back to Bariloche.

- Full day Bariloche excursion

The Circuito Chico begins in the city, and it only takes of few kilometers into the mountains before you are treated to unbelievably beautiful panoramas. Later, you will go to Lopez Bay to do some kayaking. The guides will provide you basic instructions on handling the crafts, and then you will paddle across Lake Nahuel Huapi, whose blue waters are fed by a glacier, and cross into the confines of Lake Moreno to explore hidden bays that most people never have the chance to see. We have planned the excursion so you will have plenty of time to take pictures, to sightsee, and to enjoy your time in nature without feeling the pressure to move on.

Your picnic lunch will be set up in one of the hidden bays on the lake shore, with the majestic Patagonian forests behind you.

After a brief rest, your guides will lead you on a trek to lookout points along the Tristeza branch as well as others overlooking Lake Nahuel Huapi, great locations for checking out the islands and surrounding mountains, particularly Mount Tronador, crowned with glaciers and forever snowcapped.

Before returning to the city, you will make a stop at the Punto Panorámico [panoramic point] from where you can see Lake Nahuel Huapi, Victoria Island, and the Andes. You should be back at your hotel by 5 P.M.

Half day: Soft hiking in Llao Llao

Today’s hiking adventure is less than 30 minutes from Bariloche, and the route takes you through fantastic wild lands along the lake shore of Nahuel Huapi: Circuito Chico, Bonita Beach, and Serena Beach to Puerto Pañuelo and Hotel LLao LLao. It’s a soft hike through the national park, and your eyes will automatically be drawn to the tallest tree in the zone: the coihues, which grow as tall as 40 meters. Enjoy the scenery of bamboo fields, grasslands filled with wildflowers, and plenty of trees.

Lake Nahuel Huapi and its islands will come into view at the higher altitudes of the trail. It covers an area similar to that of Buenos Aires: immense! and its waters are held in place by the surrounding mountains: Capilla, Millaqueo, and Lopez. Listen sharply for the song of the chucao bird or the rat-tat-tat of woodpeckers. The reward for reaching the top of Llao Llao Hill is the spectacle stretching out in front of you: Lake Moreno and Lake Escondido as well as the openings to the Blest and Tristeza branches of Lake Nahuel Huapi.

There will be a short break for you to admire the countryside, to take pictures, and to enjoy delicious snacks before descending the path to one of the bays. Your return also offers the possibility of visiting interesting sights like Lopez Bay, Punto Panorámico, the Swiss Colony, Lake Moreno, and Lake El Trebol.
