Starting out in either La Paz or Puno, you will be transferred to the city of Copacabana at the edge of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world (elevation 3812 meters). Once there, it's off to the pier where you take a boat to spectacular Isla del Sol, largest island in the lake, to visit the Pilkokaina archeological ruins (a.k.a. Inca Temple). The day ends with a hike (close to 1 hour) to the Ecolodge La Estancia, where you will spend the night.
Today is set aside for a tour of Isla de la Luna; after a boat ride to the island, you will visit the Iñac Uyu archeological site (Temple of the Moon), which was an Acllawasi (house for chosen women) during the Incan Empire. Next, you take another boat to the Chinkana archeological complex, and after that tour, there is a short hike to the town of Challapampa. The excursion ends with another hike uphill to the lodge. You can rest and have the entire afternoon to yourself to enjoy the peace and beauty of the place.
This day, you will hike to the town of Yumani and visit the Jardin del Inca [Emperor's Garden], called thus because when the Incas controlled this area, it was filled with Andean flowers and trees. You will then take another boat back to the city of Copacabana to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana. The trip ends with transfer to La Paz or Puno (3 – 4 hours).
