Itinerary
A 7 night program - Welcome drink.
You will be driven to the Mansion Dandi Royal, a boutique hotel that has wagered on the theme of the Tango. It's found in the heart of San Telmo, the birthplace of this city's characteristic dance that UNESCO declared as World Cultural Heritage.
Today's itinerary includes a half day tour of Buenos Aires and its main attractions, like the neighborhoods of La Recoleta and Palermo, the Colon Theater, Plaza de Mayo, Cathedral, and House of Congress, that will infuse you with the spirit of the city. Once complete, you stop off at Café Tortoni, on Avenida De Mayo. This is a legendary site, called a peña in Spanish, where famous Argentine artists would gather. It was originally led by the painter Quinquela Martín, and then frequented by such important writers as Alfonsina Storni. The tour also includes the old neighborhood of San Telmo, a leisurely walk down Calle Caminito in La Boca, and the affluent area of Puerto Madero. You can experience the San Telmo's Sunday market and take Tango classes at the Mansion Dandi Royal.
The plan for today is to visit the portside neighborhood of La Boca, the arrival point for thousands of Europeans, mostly Italians, who rode the waves of immigration from 1870 to 1930. It's a quaint area and obligatory stop because of its special scenic beauty. Small houses, nicknamed "conventillos" (mini convents), whose owners followed the lead of celebrated Argentine painter Quinquela Martín and painted them in striking colors, line its streets and corners. You will visit the Quinquela Martín Museum, and walk down famous Calle Caminito. If you wish, you can take a Tango class at La Ventana in San Telmo, birthplace of this graceful dance.
