Welcome to La Paz! You’ll arrive at El Alto International Airport, the highest in the world at 4,080 meters above sea level. Upon arrival you’ll be transferred from the airport to the hotel, traveling along a motorway with amazing views of the La Paz valley and the city lights.
Overnight in La Paz
We’ll embark on a four-hour walking tour through La Paz, city chosen as one of the 7 urban wonders of the world. It’s settled in a valley formed at the foot of the Royal Andes mountain range, at 36,32 meters above sea level. We’ll visit the area of the street markets, filled with handicrafts, fabrics and witchcraft artifacts. Afterwards we’ll tour the colonial part of the city, the church of San Francisco, the Gold Museum, Plaza Murillo, the "Killi Killi" viewpoint, from where you have a magnificent view of the city, and the replica of the Semi-subterranean temple of Tiwanaku. Our tour then continues on to the modern part of the city, descending to 3,200 masl to finally visit the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), an impressive site due to its capricious formations resulting from erosion. The cable car ride will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy a striking and beautiful view of La Paz. This excursion is a must for all visitors to this city.
Overnight in La Paz
In the morning you’ll be transferred to La Paz Airport to board a flight to Uyuni.
Once in Uyuni, mid-morning, we’ll depart towards the Great Salt Lake, stopping along the way to visit the famous train cemetery, where we'll see the remains of steam locomotives from the 19th and 20th centuries. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the middle of the Salt Flat before stopping in Colchani, the best place to observe the methods of extraction of salt. Later, we’ll continue to the island known as Isla Incahuasi (Fish Island), an oasis with a unique ecosystem and magnificent views, populated by giant cacti of up to 10 meters in height. The journey continues north to visit the pre-Columbian fort of Pucara de Ayque and the nearby chullpares (funeral towers), both at the feet of the Thunupa Volcano. At the end the day we’ll return to the village of Colchani, where we’ll spend the night at the Salt Palace Hotel.
Overnight in Colchani, Uyuni – Palacio de Sal Hotel
During the morning you’ll be transferred from Colchani towards Uyuni to take the flight back to La Paz. Once in La Paz we’ll head to the Tiwanaku ruins, located 1 ½ hours (72 km) away from the city. During the route we’ll travel through the Bolivian altiplano, with beautiful views and where you can admire the way of life of the Aymaras.
Tiwanaku was one of the oldest centers of American culture, dating from between 1200 BC to 1580 DC according to historical dating. It is considered one of the most developed cultures of its time. Among the main constructions we can see are the Temple of Kalasasaya, with its most notable work in the Puerta del Sol, the monoliths Ponce and Friar; The Pyramid of Akapana and the Semi-subterranean temple. There are also two museums included as part of the tour, where we’ll be able to see works in ceramics and stone.
After the visit to Tiwanaku, we’ll return to La Paz.
Overnight in La Paz
You’ll be driven to the airport at an appropriate time for your departure flight.
