Half Day City tour, San Pedro market & nearby ruins
Cusco
Detailed itinerary
This charming half-day tour of Cusco offers us history, living culture, and art. We will be able to appreciate how Andean and Spanish culture coexist harmoniously in the Imperial City, as well as the past and the present. We will arrive at the center to explore the corridors of the San Pedro Market, the city's oldest market. Designed in 1925 by Gustave Eiffel, today it attracts hundreds of local product merchants. We will also visit the Koricancha, which was a center of worship to the Sun during the Inca Empire, and later the Santo Domingo convent was built on top of it as part of the evangelization process. Its Baroque façade built upon the sturdy Inca walls perfectly summarizes the syncretism of cultures in the city of Cusco. To appreciate the grandeur of the Incas, we will ascend to the monumental fortress of Sacsayhuamán, one of the finest examples of their military architecture, and explore the archaeological site of Kenko, a ceremonial place where worship was offered to the Sun, the Moon, and the stars. We couldn't do a city tour without visiting the cathedral, its most important temple. It was erected on the palace of the Inca Huiracocha. Its interior houses a wonderful collection of colonial art composed of goldsmithing pieces and representative canvases from the Cusco School.
