Santa Marta is the capital city of the Department of Magdalena. It has a privileged location at the edge of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, between one of the highest summits in Colombia, and the Caribbean Sea. This is especially attractive for nature lovers and cultural enthusiasts, as it offers the possibility to experience different types of flora and fauna, and learn about the Arahuaco native community. It was funded on July 29 of 1525 by the Spanish conqueror Rodrigo de Bastidas; it is the oldest existing city in Colombia and second in South America. Among the sites of interest, you can find Rodadero beach, Tayrona Park, Taganga, Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino (Bolivar house), Cathedral and Basilica of Santa Marta.
