Enjoy the best of Patagonian cuisine at Nibepo Aike - Argentina

Itinerary

To complement your stay in Patagonia, Condor Travel will facilitate the transfer to the Calafate where you can observe and learn the cuisine of southern Argentina.

Day 1: Nibepo Aike

Nibepo Aike was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by a Croatian immigrant, Santiago Peso. The inn is open all year long. After you have arrived at the place, you will go for a brief hike to familiarize yourself with the area and to be amazed at the sight of southern Lake Argentino. You will also visit the garden where they grow the vegetables used in the food prepared at the inn, as well as witness a demonstration of equestrian skill called the test of the reins. The day ends with dinner.

Day 2: Horseback riding and cooking lessons

The inn is protected from the winds by a screen of trees and brush planted just a few yards away from the main structure, and the first dish you will learn to cook is one prepared outside: bife al disco, served with fresh vegetables. A traditional Patagonian lunch.

In the afternoon, you will go for a horseback ride into the surrounding countryside. The setting sun signals the time for your next cooking lesson. Everything is made from scratch in the main kitchen; you will enjoy the three course meal in the rustic dining hall, complete with a central table.

Day 3: Horseback riding to the Cachorro Creek and cooking lessons

The morning is set aside for the horseback ride to Cachorro Creek, where you will learn to cook cordero patagónico a la cruz, a slow cooked dish over an open fire – a delicacy. There are four steps to making the dish: preparation, starting the fire, fashioning the cross (upon which the mutton is hung), and cooking the meat. Everything is done at the proper time so the end product is delicious and tender. You will be offered snacks to eat and wine to drink while you wait.

Day 4

You will be served breakfast and lunch at the inn, and then it will be time to say farewell, but not without all the recipes and lessons written down and practiced.
