The “fileteado” started as a decorative motif of horse carts in the early twentieth century and then spread to the buses and trucks. It is a popular decorative art and typical of Buenos Aires. Just as tango musically defines Buenos Aires, the “fileteado” is its iconography. Their shapes are stylized, intense color and painted as to create feeling of volume. Flowers, ribbons, acanthus leaves, dragons and birds areelements of his repertoire, combined with phrases and images of popular characters. Both, “filete” and Tango share their popular origin.
