Luxurious Peru - Peru

You are in for a real treat: luxury Peru travel that includes some of the country’s top destinations. You will spend a day in the capital and from there fly to the department of Cusco, where for the next few days you will visit the city of Cusco and the surrounding area, topping off that section of the trip with a Machu Picchu luxury tour. But there is still more. The program continues to the Peruvian Amazon for a Tambopata tour and stopover at Puerto Maldonado. All in all, this is a Peru luxury tour you will not want to miss.

Day 1: Arrival at Lima

Arrive at Lima. Accommodations at the Belmond Miraflores Park Hotel.

Day 2: Colonial Lima and the Larco Museum

This luxury Peru tour starts in the morning with an excursion to the historic center of Lima, “the City of the Kings” and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. You will stop at the Main Square and visit its principal landmarks; after that, it is off to the Santo Domingo Convent, a 16th-century architectural masterpiece. Later, you will continue the tour to the city’s modern sectors: the exclusive district of San Isidro, Lima’s new financial center, and Miraflores, with a stop at the “Parque del Amor” (a sort of lover’s lane) and its incredible view of the Pacific Ocean. Next stop is the Larco Museum, whose specially selected private collection shows more than 3000 years of Pre-Columbian history. The day ends with a dinner of delicious Peruvian food at the Huaca Pucllana Restaurant, located next to the archaeological complex of the same name. Accommodations at the Belmond Miraflores Park Hotel.

Optional: Visit the Casa Aliaga, one of the few Colonial mansions where descendants, 16 generations’ worth, of the original family have lived, and still do so. Plans for this evening include a candlelight dinner in an 18th-century dining room (10 person group minimum).

Day 3: Arrival at Cusco – Sacred Valley – Wayra

Depart for Cusco. After arriving in the city, this luxury Peru tour continues at the friendly and elegant Wayra Ranch in the country, where you will enjoy the most exquisite flavors of the Andes and have the chance to learn more about our culture by being part of a horse show featuring Peruvian paso horses that will surprise you by their light gait and remarkable grace.

Day 4: Pisac Market – Picnic – Ollantaytambo

Today begins your journey through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. First stop is the Pisac Market, in which you will see the truest reflection of our Andean roots. Teeming with colors and tradition, it has turned into the place to be for purchasing handicrafts, silver jewelry, alpaca clothing and accessories, and locally made pottery. Afterwards, you will make a stop at Ollantaytambo, a typical small town in the Andes that has hardly changed since the time of the Incas, boasting narrow streets and canals of rushing fresh water. Another attraction is the Ollantaytambo Fortress, an archaeological complex with terraced hillsides and stone walls carved only as the Incas could. Lastly, if you so choose, you can visit the spa for some relaxation time.

Accommodations at either the Belmond Rio Sagrado Hotel or Tambo del Inka, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa:

A minimum of 5 people needed for the picnic
Spa service is optional

Its service, comfort, luxury, and ambience are first rate: a gourmet menu inspired by Peruvian flavors, elegant berths, and shows featuring local dances. The long train ride ends at the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will disembark and ascend by bus to Machu Picchu. Once there, you will explore the site and marvel at its splendor. After the tour, you will enjoy “Tea Time” in the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, a unique hotel right next to the ancient outpost, and then board the bus that takes you to the train station at Aguas Calientes and the train waiting to take you back to Cusco.

Following that will be a stop at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress built by the Incas. Then, it is off to see the nearby Qenko, Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay archeological sites. You will also stop at a place called the Inka’s Expression, a living art gallery where you will learn a little about the work of local artisans.
